Off Yer Tree
Off Yer Tree sell real Christmas trees in Edinburgh. Scottish-grown firs, checked before they leave, and brought to your door on the date you pick. It is a business with about eight weeks a year to get it right.
Buying a tree online is harder than it sounds. Nobody knows what a 6ft Nordmann looks like in their own living room, whether it will drop needles all over the carpet, or which day it will actually turn up. If the site cannot answer that quickly, people give up and go to the garden centre.
We modernised the layout and rebuilt the shop so it does the choosing with you. Each tree is described the way a person would describe it: how the needles feel, what shape it is, what sizes it comes in and what it starts at. The size guide tells you to measure your ceiling, then knock a foot off for the stand and the star, which saves a lot of sawing in December.
Ordering is three steps: find your tree, pick your preferred delivery date, get the kettle on. Stands, wreaths and lights are offered along the way, and we made that part fun rather than pushy, so the whole lot goes in one basket. A count of the sleeps till Christmas runs across the top of every page, and there is a WhatsApp button for anyone who would rather just ask a person.
The site looks and sounds like the people behind it: green, yellow, and happy to tell you to bring your own questionable decorations. This year we took on the social media as well, so the trees, the shop and the posts all come from the same place.
